How It Works
From your first question to a policy in your hands: what happens at each step, what to have ready and how long it usually takes.
Get in touch
Call us or send the quote form. It takes a couple of minutes and costs nothing.
Talk it through
A licensed agent asks a few questions and explains the policies you may qualify for.
Apply
If you choose a policy, we help you complete the insurer’s application, usually by phone.
Review your policy
When the policy arrives, read it. You have a free look period to change your mind.
What we will ask you
- Your date of birth and the state you live in
- Whether you use tobacco
- General questions about your health and medications
- The coverage amount you have in mind and a monthly budget
- Who you want to name as beneficiary
What to have ready for an application
- A government-issued ID
- Your Social Security number, which insurers require to issue a policy
- The names and doses of your medications
- Your doctor’s name and contact details
- Your beneficiary’s full name, date of birth and relationship to you
- Bank account details if you choose automatic monthly payments
Protect yourself: give your Social Security number and bank details only during the application itself, to an agent you have chosen to work with. Please do not send them by email or through the website forms.
How long it takes
The first conversation usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. For policies without a medical exam, the insurance company often gives a decision the same day and sometimes within minutes. Some applications take a few days when the insurer asks for more information. The insurance company, not the agent, makes the decision.
After you are approved
- Your policy is delivered by mail or electronically. Keep it where your beneficiary can find it.
- The free look period starts. You can cancel within that period for a refund of the premium paid.
- Tell your beneficiary. Let them know the policy exists, which company issued it and where the documents are.
- Keep paying the premium. Automatic payments help prevent a missed payment and a lapse.
